Housing companies as a catalyst for peer-to-peer carsharing

The aim of the study is to increase knowledge of whether real estate companies can play a role in increasing interest in P2P car sharing and in what ways this can happen. Furthermore, it should provide knowledge about the potential of P2P car sharing and a better understanding of driving forces and thresholds for renting out one´s private image or renting a car from a neighbor. The overall aim is to contribute to increased use of shared mobility.

About ten P2P cars were expected to be added during the course of the project. The owners of these would be supported through parking subsidies and keyless technology. No car owners applied for the support. No users applied for a P2P car rental discount. Another trial area was added to attract new users. This area also did not yield any results.

However, an ongoing maturation process can be discerned in the interview studies and it can be expected that the project, at least in the long term, has contributed to increased activity within P2P car sharing.
