Sustainable transport to nature - pre study in collaboration with Västtrafik, Länsstyrelsen & Västkuststiftelsen

The feasibility study proposes increased collaboration, identification of the infrastructure´s structure and need for changes. Here, work methods and measures are proposed that promote sustainable modes of travel, such as walking, cycling and public transport to nature. Furthermore, measures are proposed to create good and accessible information on travel centers, the ToGo app and on the vehicles´ monitors. These channels should be used to facilitate the individual´s travel and visits to nature.

The study proposes criteria that can be used in the future to designate suitable nature reserves. Several different actors should be able to participate, who have the appropriate skills, resources, structures and staff. In the study, we analyzed a number of protected areas in the county.

The starting point is that visitors should be able to get there in a sustainable way. The study shows that it is possible to get to several nature areas with public transport, walking and cycling and that there are also many hiking and biking trails that can be used. The project has been divided into three stages. The first has been to develop criteria for selecting examples of nature reserves that are considered visitor-friendly and that meet the set criteria. The next step has been to identify the infrastructure that will make it easier for visitors to get to these areas.

The third step has been to analyze how the information about the excursion destinations is to be conveyed in order to achieve a change but also to increase awareness of our most valuable nature areas in the county.
