Purpose and goal:

The purpose was to develop a method for evaluating the effects of mobility measures in new housing areas. The aim was to clarify which mobility measures effectively create a behavioral change from car usage to sustainable travel.

Based on the method that was developed and tested, we can draw some conclusions about which factors that have the greatest impact on car ownership and travel behavior. In order to be able to state effects in actual figures, a further development of the method is required, where e.g. more studied areas are included.

Expected results and effects:

The effects of mobility measures on car ownership can be discerned. However, it is too early in the development of the method to be able to ensure an effect in actual figures. One reason is that age and income are strongly related to car ownership, and the areas studied differ regarding both of these variables.

The study shows that parking demand in Västra hamnen was about 25% lower in properties with mobility measures compared to properties without measures, and in Limhamn, parking demand was about 35% lower. Approach and implementation:

The study covers properties in three areas in Malmö municipality and was conducted as a combined quantitative and qualitative study. The properties were selected i.a. based on the possibility to compare properties with and without mobility measures. In the quantitative study, data was collected on car ownership, parking opportunities and mobility measures.

Within the qualitative study, information about the residents´ travel habits, attitudes to different means of transport and the use of possible mobility measures was collected and analyzed.
