Digital learning and competence development for Swedish Industri (DPK-i)

Purpose and goal:

The project has explored and conducted small-scale tests to identify key aspects of integrating learning in the workplace, particularly for production personnel in the manufacturing industry and with a focus on digital scalability. The preliminary study, based on academic research and our own applied research, highlights the critical importance of including all learners from the initial design stages and understanding the future learning needs that drive motivation. It emphasizes the need to create motivation before delving into course-specific content.

Expected results and effects:

Our findings indicate that people aiming to establish educational initiatives or foster competence development must prioritize learner-centered design. The content, pedagogy, and format should effectively cater to the needs of the learner. Motivation is cultivated by involving all individuals requiring skill development, particularly in the industrial sector, which entails shifting the focus from the instructor to the learning process.

By incorporating these considerations into the design of workplace learning, favorable conditions for scalability can be achieved. Approach and implementation:

The project followed a design methodology with multiple iterations. It was divided into sub-projects, one conducting academic and applied research to identify effective methodology, pedagogy, incentive structure, and learning design for workplace learning. Another tried out three smaller tests/studies and examined production personnel´s conditions, existing content, and guidance needs using different theoretical frameworks and objectives. All activities aligned with preliminary study requirements.
