Purpose and goal:
Advance the development of diagnostic tools with heightened sensitivity and specificity, focusing on the early detection of cardiac microRNAs in circulation. These microRNAs are pivotal biomarkers for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). By enabling early detection, our objective is to improve the accuracy of prognosis and enhance the management of CVDs, with the ultimate goal of significantly reducing mortality rates associated with these conditions.
Expected results and effects: The expected outcomes include: 1. Development of a more precise and advanced diagnostic tool with heightened sensitivity and selectivity. 2. Early detection of cardiac microRNAs, pivotal biomarkers in the context of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).
3. Improved accuracy in the prognosis of CVDs, leading to more effective patient management and thus a significant reduction in mortality rates associated with cardiovascular diseases as a direct result of early detection and improved management. Approach and implementation:
We optimized AuBP synthesis with a silica and mPEG coating for stability and uniformity. We tested PEG-Si-AuBPs for thermocycling efficiency, demonstrating stability. These particles remained stable for three months and were sent to Columbia University for decentralized PCR setup development.
