Grant Description

Purpose and goal: The project is part of the seperate SME-funding connected to he Vinnova competence center 2D TECH:

Intermittent nature of renewable energy sources require integration with energy storages. Our novel graphene encapsuled TESM is proven to ensure 25% greater power in/power out capacity compared with the same material without graphene. The developed and verified graphene encapsulation method is fully scalable, cost effective and ensure uniform graphene encapsulation.

Optimum material thickness and graphene composition were determined. Long-time cycling analyses revealed that cycled graphene encapsulated TESM reveal further improvement for power in/power out capacity. Expected results and effects:

2D-TECH´s focus in R&I is, among other things, sustainable energy. The proposed concept is a new material that has double energy storage capacity compared to commercial electric batteries but at a significantly lower cost. TESM is based on 2D technology and in line with 2D-TECH´s focus on sustainable methods and processes based on 2D materials for energy storage.

Graphene competence building made it possible to explain and experimentally verify the influence of graphene encapsulation on power in/power out TESM properties. Industrialization of this TESM is planned for Q4 2022. Approach and implementation:

Long-time cycling results, measurements of hydration rates, scanning electron microscopy, BET analyses and dynamic temperature measurements confirmed that graphene encapsuled TESM demonstrated 25% enhanced power in/power out energy exchange rates compared to graphene-free reference sample. The product specification and road map for mass production of the novel graphene encapsuled TESM were taken forth.

Key partners, stake holders and potential customers were determined. Collaboration with 2D-Tech R&I Sustainable Energy Team was established.
