Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

6G-SKY aims to contribute to the communication and computation solutions in the sky to cover all segments of the airspace such as flying taxis, drones, High Altitude Platforms (HAPs) and satellites. Expected results and effects:

The 6G for Connected Sky-project will propose a flexible and adaptive network architecture that integrates multiple technologies such as satellite and DA2CG (direct air-to-ground communication). In addition, the project focuses on new wireless network design and resource management methods for three-dimensional (3D) environments including different types of flying vehicles with their unique eligibility requirements.

Another focus is to provide robust, low delay and / or high capacity for land users in sparsely populated areas. Approach and implementation:

The project will start in April of 2022 and run for 3-years. A total of 16 partners from 4 countries, Germany, Hungary, Austria and Sweden will contribute to the work. In Sweden, two large companies, Ericsson and SAS, an SME, Skysense and the national telecom regulator PTS, are engaged together with KTH, which also acts as coordinator the Swedish initiative.

The project is carried out 6 Work Packages (WPs), where one is set aside for project management (WP0) and one focused on testing and demonstration (WP5).
