Purpose and goal:
Our aim with the project was to verify the most basic assumptions about our technical solution to join CLT floors without screw joints. Technically, we have achieved the goal of going from TRL2 with technical theoretical assumptions and limited technical tests, to TRL3 with verified technical properties performed together with the customer. In terms of market, we have moved from basic market assumptions in MRL1, to MRL2 by confirming customer value propositions together with the customer. Together, we will take next steps towards market launch.
Expected results and effects:
Compared to today´s screw joints, we found that CLT installed with our technology XLoc can be installed faster with today´s construction cranes, has a good technical performance that is independent of the installer´s skill, is robust and provides the opportunity to reuse the panels, solves a work injury risk at the construction site and provides a beautiful joint. Altogether, we increase the biomaterial CLT´s competitiveness.
Approach and implementation:
The project began by analysing today´s production tolerances in milling and press, which was the basis for process adjustments and adaptation of the joining geometry. CLT elements of 11x2 m were equipped with XLoc joining technology formed in the panels using existing CNC milling machine at project partner Martinsons. The elements were then joined using a crane, where the impact on assembly was evaluated generated by milling and panel flatness tolerances. Segments from the panels were then used for load tests.
