Digital innovation in circular business ecosystems

Purpose and goal:

This project engages a number of key players to develop the conditions for a digital and circular business ecosystem with a selection of products and materials that make up large volumes of waste from the construction sector. The project built a consortium where RISE, Stockholm School of Economics, Ragn-Sells, NCC and Vasakronan will participate in step 2.

The goal of the project is to establish inter- and intra-organizational conditions for the digitalized circular business ecosystems of the future through co-created visions and prototypes. Expected results and effects:

During stage 1, the pilot study confirmed that increased information flow would facilitate quality assurance and reporting and promote reduced value depreciation along the value chain. Achieving increased information flow requires first identifying the values in the data and creating agreements between stakeholders on roles, data management and sharing of costs and financial values.

The project is expected to contribute in line with two of the five identified societal challenges: Sustainable Industry and Sustainable Community Development. Approach and implementation:

Step 1 consisted of a review of theoretical models and frameworks for facilitating the collaboration of actors in a business ecosystem towards the co-creation of future circular business models. The work was divided into three work packages: a) Needs Analysis, b) Future Business Ecosystem and c) Stage 2 Objectives and Planning. We anchored the project with participating stakeholders to deepen the understanding of challenges and development needs through dialogues (10 interviews) and a workshop with people in development and decision-making roles.
