System for a reuse industry - a transition pathway

Purpose and goal:

A key to sustainable change is reduced consumption of products. The long-term goal is to create and facilitate an industry for reuse in sustainable living environments where reuse is the norm and is perceived as as simple or easier than new purchases.

The project will result in new knowledge about how current systems support reuse in society for a sustainable change, well anchored proposals for how these systems can be strengthened, supplemented and scaled up, development of business models for partners as well as ways to make reuse the norm. Expected results and effects:

The project will result in new knowledge on systems (e.g. value chains, business models, collaboration around support system) for a reuse industry, wellanchored proposals for how those systems possibly could be strengthened, complemented and scaled up, new business development for partners and ways to establish reuse as the

norm. In the long run it will contribute to Vinnova´s long-term goals for a sustainable industry: Climate-neutral and circular production, Resource-efficient and resilient value chains, Global competitiveness, and a socially sustainable industry. Approach and implementation:

The project´s work package 1-6 will be led by IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutet. We have centered our partnerships around Stockholm and Mölndal (Gothenburg) to include two urban centers in both western and eastern Sweden. The purpose is to get a broad range of responses and to be able to make comparative analyzes of similarities and differences between conditions and effects in Stockholm and Mölndal.

These areas represent two relevant urban environments for scaling up recycling, but also connections to the regional environment, and serving social economic mixed areas.
