Purpose and goal: At the end of the project, these goals will be completed: Verified the manufacturing process for Lignosize in laboratory and pilot scale. Designed and built a demonstration plant for production of Lignosize. Put the demonstration plant into operation and produced sufficient quantities of Lignosize for full-scale evaluation
Lignisize evaluated as a replacement for ASA at full-scale on a paper machine for liner production. Expected results and effects:
The demonstration of production of Lignosize is essential to be able to go further and build up the complete value chain from Lignin to Lignosize and further for use as a hydrophobing agent in liner production. A demonstration plant will verify the concept and accelerate the construction of the lignin value chain into high-value chemicals. Furthermore, business opportunities and value chains will emerge in the chemical industry, the pulp industry and the technology supplier level.
Approach and implementation:
Initial experiments will be carried out on a laboratory and pilot scale to investigate selected parameters, for example different ways of isolating the product from the reaction mixture, as well as reaction times and level of modification. The initial experiments will form the basis for further upscaling of the process to demonstration scale.
The demonstration scale process is used to produce sufficient quantities of Lignosize to be able to perform full-scale tests on paper machines for hydrophobing liner. Furthermore, process data will be generated towards a possible full scale.
