Purpose and goal:
The core aim of this project was to perform a series of verification steps that were necessary to capitalize the unique innovation potential of our silicon nitride nanophotonics technology. This includes technical verification and development of business models.
All steps have been carried out, and the library of components has been established, the validation show good results, as does the FTO analysis. Based on these outcomes contacts have been taken for follow-up with new industrial partners. Expected results and effects:
The most important outcome is that a new commercialization service based on design and prototyping of photonic integration has been established at a spin off. This leverages results from Chalmers university of Technology.
The results of this project indicate the technology can be commercialized, based on which the business plan strategy has been developed.
We have developed a library of photonic devices (building blocks) based on industry-qualified commercial software. This is necessary to scale the designs and facilitate interaction with end users. Approach and implementation:
The first phase consisted of the FTO analysis. The outcome turned out positive. We initially had planned to outsource the design of building blocks, but it turned out more economic to do it ourselves.
This however, required more time. During the last stage, a beta nanofabrication run was implemented, not exempt of difficulties, including long down times in the cleanroom. Thanks to a slight extension of the project duration, we could successfully finalize the nanofabrication and establish industrial connections. In the next stage, a statistical analysis will be done.
