Purpose and goal:
The purpose of this project was to enable two research groups within the electronics line of hhe Vinnova competence centrum 2D-Tech, to fulfill its potential by creating a framework for a Swedish supply chain. The goals were to initiate and establish a process for hydrogen intercalation of graphene at Graphensic and to evaluate the material within the two groups.
The project turned out well and the established process for hydrogen intercalation at Graphensic has been evaluated by one research group during the project period with very good results. Expected results and effects:
The quality of the obtained hydrogen-intercalated graphene is good (the material is uniform and thus useful in semiconductor manufacturing). The material is now available to researchers and developers who want to explore applications for this material. Given the encouraging results with the research group at Chalmers, one area to explore is the development of high-frequency transistors suitable for 6G technology.
Approach and implementation:
This project has had a strong connection to 2D-Tech in that the two research groups at Chalmers have had to set requirements for the material and continuously provide feedback. Material development and manufacturing of devices took place in Chalmers´ clean room. At the start of the project, the plan was for all manufacturing to be carried out by a senior researcher at Graphensic, but very early on it was realized that the costs for renting tools in the clean room had been seriously underestimated, and instead a student was recruited who was then supervised to carry out the tasks.
