We are entering a new era in which fundamental aspects of gravity and black holes will be revealed through experiments, underscoring the need for advancing our fundamental understanding of space and time.
The aim of this project is to make foundational contributions towards a quantum description of black holes and more generally the emergence of spacetime by extending and deepening our understanding of holography, which is the paradgim that plays a crucial role in unravelling this description.
Recent advances by myself and the participating researcher point towards nonrelativistic dualities as a novel and promising route to achieve this.
In one direction, we will study the foundations of nonrelativistic string theory and its relation to non-perturbative methods in string theory, ultimately leading to a top-down perspective on nonrelativistic holography.
In parallel, a bottom-up path will be pursued building on recent work that signals a duality between nonrelativistic gravities and field theories akin to condensed matter theories of ferromagnetism. With a VR postdoc, the participating researcher Dr.
Ziqi Yan, and a large international network of excellent collaborators, I will pursue these goals in parallel via two work packages over a 4-year period.
In view of the surge of interest into applications of non-relativistic geometry during the last five years, it will also impact on astrophysics, cosmology, along with condensed matter and mathematical physics.
