Digital transformation, artificial intelligence and economic progress

Purpose and goal:

To generate and disseminate new insights about digitalisation, structural change and the need for policy reforms that follows with the diffusion of a new general purpose technology. Expected results and effects:

To map and analyse the economic impact of digital transformation, and in particular applications of artificial intelligence, within the scope of two parallel strands of research:

i) The interaction between firm-level transformation and economy-wide structural change that impacts labor markets, innovation, entrepreneurship, productivity and industrial dynamics.

ii) The need for policy reforms to realise the potential of the digital transformation and at the same time safeguard competitiveness, economic dynamism and individual privacy. Approach and implementation:

The research is organised in five separate but related working packages that run in parallel during the duration of the project. In the early stages of the project, a workshop combining junior and senior researchers will be organised to discuss approaches to the different working packages. During the project, annual conferences will then be held to disseminate research and contribute to networking between participating researchers.
