Purpose and goal:
The project aimed to strengthen the contact surfaces between VTI and Chalmers in the area of virtual crash testing and to contribute to the development of the area of virtual crash safety testing. This has been done by collaboratively developing finite element (FE) models of the physical crash dummies SETs of both an average female (50F) and male (50M).
The model is called FE SET 50F and 50M, In the project, validation of FE SETs for evaluation of virtual seat models has been carried out. A manuscript describing the mdoesl for publication at the IRCOBI conference 2024 has been accepted. Expected results and effects: 500 tecken
The project has resulted in FE models of the crash dummies SET 50F and 50M. The area of use for FE SETs is the validation of seat models for the evaluation of crash safety at low collision speeds to assess the protection against neck injuries. The project has resulted in joint scientific publication of FE SETs.
Discussions about future collaborations are ongoing, which will strengthen Swedish research and development. FE SET 50F and 50M are developed in open source and are available at https://openvt.eu/set/. Approach and implementation:
Junior and senior employees at VTI have had the opportunity to work together with internationally established researchers from Chalmers in the field of finite elements. The Chalmers researchers have had the opportunity to, in an interactive process, design and carry out validation tests at VTI´s workshop and participate in activities at the Traffic Safety Unit at VTI.
In this way, the network has been strengthened through the development of valuable competence and the exchange of knowledge between the organisations. A senior consultant has also contributed to the development.
