Sustainable metal use and production

Purpose and goal:

The goal is to strengthen the global competitiveness of the Swedish manufacturing and materials producing industry by, together with academia, developing a sustainable, easily accessible key technology consisting of theoretical tools and methods to enable the manufacturing and use of steel, steel products and hard metals where recyclability, lifetime and available raw materials constitute design requirements. This is done by bringing together different competences in academia and industry. The goal will be met if the applied project is granted funding.

Expected results and effects:

The project´s objective was to define a common vision and consortium, a description of activities summarized in a competence center application and a proposal for a center agreement, which was done and a proposal has been sent to Vinnova. The expected effect is that the proposal is approved and that the center can be started.

Approach and implementation:

The project was divided into 4 work packages (AP). AP 1 consisted of project management and management of the vision work that resulted in a joint vision. In AP 2 the competence center´s focus, in both partners and themes, been identified through interviews and workshops with 30 different parties.

The centre´s core business has been shaped and its relevance anchored to industry. In AP 3 a proposal for a competence center been written and submitted. In AP 4, the planning project has been coordinated and documented. In addition, a proposal for a center agreement has been developed.
