The United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for sustainable development has made a pledge to ‘leave no-one behind’, a statement that has significant implications for the 15% of the world’s population who live with a disability.
People with disabilities in low- and middle-income countries face many barriers and experience poverty levels that are higher for this group than any other group without disabilities.
Those who experience two or more disorders simultaneously e.g. a physical disorder and a mental health disorder, experience greater levels of disability and are among the poorest of the poor.
This project will be conducted in Cambodia, a country that has experience some of the highers rates of disability in the world and aims to contribute knowledge regarding the prevalence and risk factors for mental health problems in people with physical disabilities.
The project will develop, implement and evaluate a sustainable mental health screening and peer support program for individuals identified as being at risk of mental health problems.
