uropean Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research, EMPIR, co-financing 2021-2024

Purpose and goal:

RISE is a National Metrology Institute, a signatory of a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) in international metrology and for Swedish membership to the European Association of National Metrology Institutes, EURAMET. With the support of the European Commission EURAMET coordinates an Article 185 projects since 2014 and which aims to coordinate research activities in European metrology.

This Article 185 activity is running in parallel with the European research framework program, Horizon 2020, and is called European Program for Research and Innovation, EMPIR. Expected results and effects:

The total scope of the European metrology research programme, EMPIR is 600 MEuro (for Sweden 10 MEuro), where about half is funded the the EU. This special Article 185 program provides opportunities for Swedish national metrology, i.e. RISE and SSM, to take part in metrology research in areas of great importance for the development of technology in research, industry and society.

Approach and implementation:

The European metrology research programme, EMPIR, coordinated by the organization EURAMET. By RISE participation in the EURAMET, SP also participate in EMPIR´s Research Council. RISE and SSM together with industry and universities have the opportunity to participate in a total of 20 different calls within 7 areas during the period from 2014 until in 2020. The last EMPIR call was 2020. The project granted in that call started in the summer 2021 and will end in the summer 2024.
