Purpose and goal:
The objective of this project was getting the knowledge and experience of EMA at real application and verify EMA system on functional prototype machine as well as finding out technical improvement areas and create proposals for next step. Expected results and effects: Proof-of-concept for replacing existing hydraulic boom cylinder:
*Get the knowledge & experience of EMA at real application
*Technology potential is verified-Energy saving potential is 20 ~ 35% (EMA performance meets the target in real DnD motion) *Found challenge on working range *Deliver the knowledge into the expert community Approach and implementation:
Hydraulic Boom cylinders on the machine were replaced by rack and pinion-type EMA. In addition, boom actuator modification, HV system, Cooling system, machine structure, and boom attachment are modified to be equipped with an EMA actuator system.
*We got good knowledge not only of the EMA but also its application in a machine also we figured out technical challenges like braking, working range, and motor sizing
*Energy efficiency improvement, the target (20%@Real DnD ) was achieved in this project and is expected to have a potential increase of up to 35% if the system is well optimized.
