Chemical recycling of man-made cellulose fibers (MMCF)

Purpose and goal:

The purpose of the project was to investigate how recycled fibres (MMCF) can be integrated into a non-toxic and circular value chain for various product streams such as textiles, packaging, or building blocks for the chemical industry. The project aimed to generate a roadmap for the recycling of MMCF, develop circular prototypes, and foster closer dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders in the value chain.

This main objective has been fulfilled in every aspect. A summary of the entire project´s work has been presented in a joint project report and in work package reports. Expected results and effects:

A roadmap for potential MMCF recycling, in the form of a published report, has been developed, along with several circular prototypes. Additionally, multiple process improvements and potential solutions have been identified. The project has also led to closer dialogue and increased collaboration among several stakeholders, resulting in ongoing partnerships.

Through the market analysis conducted, a clearer understanding has emerged of the obstacles present and what is needed to implement potential MMCF recycling. The project has also generated two scientific articles. Approach and implementation:

The project activities have been managed within six work packages (WPs), each with its own set of deliverables and milestones. 11 project and nine steering group meetings, respectively, with good attendence, have been scheduled on a regular basis. The activity and participation within the project have been very high and contributed to the good results achieved within the project.
