iErgonomics - IoT Supporting a Sustainable Work Life

Purpose and goal:

The purpose of the project has been fulfilled, i.e. to develop an IoT based system that connects the components into a system to assess the risk of musculoskeletal disorders. The system consists of sensors attached to smart work clothes, data collection, communication, storage and analysis as well as presentation of a risk analysis. The system has been tested and modified for better usability, mainly for personnel from occupational and environmental medicine clinics as well as occupational health services.

Expected results and effects:

The system supports and facilitates those who need to carry out a risk assessment of musculoskeletal risks at work and workplaces. As measurements provide better reliability and require less resources than observations, the volumes of these assessments are expected to increase, which will partly initiate more measures but also improve the knowledge of preventive measures.

At the societal and organizational levels, the costs of musculoskeletal injuries will be reduced and human suffering will also be reduced. Furthermore, the new technology will be more widespread. Approach and implementation:

The setup with a broad reference group a user group and a close dialogue with the project group and the technical development group has worked very well. Many suggestions about usability have come forward and several have also been incorporated into the final solutions. There were about 20 people in the user group. They were all satisfied or very satisfied with the system they tested, and they also stated that they wish to use the technology in the future.
