Swedish Mining Innovation Internationalization Grant

The purpose of the project was to provide funding for international travel and meeting time to promote international cooperation. Although there was interest in the grant, only one funding was issued. However, the sponsored trip to Chile was successful and important for international cooperation between the Swedish mining sector, Swedish academia and Chile.

Expected results and effects:

The project enabled a delegation from the Swedish industry (LKAB and Boliden) to broaden to include Luleå University of Technology in a visit to mining operations in Chile and take part in an Innovation workshop with the Chilean industry. Secondly, the way the project was structured and the specific conditions for receiving support were not suitable to attract Swedish organizations.

Therefore, a different approach to supporting internationalization has been initiated which involves supporting travel to organized innovation events. Approach and implementation:

The grant project was cumbersome to administer as new partners are added to the project with each grant, although this was probably not the reason for lack of applications. Lack of applications was due to criteria for applying, and as well the need for matchmaking and/or structured event to broaden the appeal and increase the possibilities for a successful outcome for the actors applying for the grant.
