Purpose and goal:
DYNASTEEL presents several benefits to sustainability and increased competitiveness. Benefits to economic sustainability include smart planning minimizing production downtime, increasing on-time delivery, and reducing energy in logistics. Benefits of environmental sustainability involve optimizing routes for delivery of material leading to reduced CO2 emissions.
Benefits of social sustainability consist of supporting the learning curve of drivers, reducing stress at work, assisting decisions in logistics, and reducing the number of incidents at work. Expected results and effects:
DYNASTEEL presented results at three levels. At site level, the project identified requirements for increasing visibility and enabling dynamic scheduling of load carriers. At value chain level, it established enablers and challenges for realizing dynamic capabilities and requirements for data security, system interoperability, processes, performance measurements, and sustainability.
At IndTech level, it detected the need for collaborating jointly with suppliers enabling digital services including monitoring, control, optimization and autonomy of resources. Approach and implementation:
A collaborative approach between KTH and SSAB characterized this project starting with a joint kick-off meeting in Oxelösund on March 9, 2022. Importantly, KTH and SSAB performed separate activities characterized by their expertise. Staff from KTH and SSAB met weekly with the purpose of planning, following up, and discussing partial findings.
Furthermore, staff from KTH designed four on-site workshops applying human centered design and rapid prototyping to develop four conceptual solutions. Additionally, KTH and SSAB organized separate work activities for generating results.
