Graphene Camouflage with Advanced Weight and Functional Properties (G-CAM)

Purpose and goal:

The project´s goal is to demonstrate a full-scale camouflage net where the radar damping function is achieved with a graphene coating. An intermediate goal is to investigate how other material properties, e.g. strength and flame retardancy, are affected by the graphene coating.

The purpose is to increase the camouflage performance, reduce weight, reduce chemicals such as flame retardants, and reduce CO2 emissions with reduced drying times. Expected results and effects:

In previous Vinnova projects, very promising results where obtained. The project result is therefore expected to be successful. The camouflage net is expected to be significantly lighter, more user-friendly and have a higher performance, not only against radar reconnaissance but also in other wavelength bands where there are reconnaissance sensors.

Lighter materials mean lower emissions during transportation. The most exciting areas are those where the effects of the graphen are not yet known, e.g. how will the strength of the material be affected by the addition of the graphene. Approach and implementation:

The work is divided into five work packages that run from 2022 to 2025. These run sequentially with overlapping parts because the sub-results are based on each other. The exception is work package five, which deals with the manufacture of full-scale camouflage net that will run throughout the project, but with the highest intensity at the end of the project.

It is important that the first two work packages (until the end of 2023), the very foundation of the project, are worked through carefully to achieve the goal. Regular digital meetings are important, with physical meetings once a month.
