Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

This project aimed to verify the performance of using graphene-based textile pressure sensors in selected products including hospital mattresses, wheelchair cushions and various furniture and related accessories. The ability of this type of product to offer a favorable pressure distribution is of great importance, both from a comfort and health perspective, and by monitoring the pressure between a user and the contact surface, dangerous and/or unpleasant pressure conditions can be more easily detected and prevented.

Expected results and effects:

Quantified tests have been performed in the lab and in simulated usage conditions for long-term accuracy and reliability. Grafren AB has developed different sensor designs on different textile substrates. RISE has measured the sensor before and after the long-term test with the medical technology producers of healthcare medical mattress, wheelchair and the furniture manufacturer.

The outcome of the project has facilitated further understanding of the potential to commercialize the graphene sensor. Approach and implementation:

The implementation of the work packages was good. Close cooperation between partners has resulted in a good understanding of the potential of commercialization: such as production volume, cost and added value for end users and the timeline.
