For many years active housing policies were seen as an indispensible aspect of Swedish welfare policies.
The right to housing was assumed as vital for young persons’ integration on the labor market, to form a family and become economically independent.
During the 1990s the policy was abandoned, and since then the Swedish housing policy is a mix of housings for capital strong groups and publicly distributed dwellings based on complex rules.
Today, a situation of informal housing forms has emerged where informal settlers are students, young adults who move from their parents, and immigrants. The aim of the First Housing-project is to compile a systematic knowledge overview of young adults’ establishment on the Swedish housing market – or non-establishment, enabling informed decisions and policy development regarding the First Housing.
The project starts out from two research questions:1) is earlier findings valid in the field of young adults’ establishment in the housing market confirmed regarding the role of socio-economic factors? 2) are policies at structural levels relevant for the three targeted groups enabling them to find legal contracts and begin their adult life?
The questions will be answered by conducting a systematic literary review of existing research and literature.
The project will be reported by a main report in Swedish, and an article in an international sci journal, including seminars and communication with concerned target groups.
