Purpose and goal:

The objectives are to 1) create three demonstrators with improved product designs, leaner remanufacturing, optimized recycling and adapted regulations in a CRM (critical raw material)-efficient PaaS (product-as-a-service) business model using sustainability indicators with the lifecycle perspective and 2) improve knowledge for product design, remanufacturing, and recycling including their interplays among them in a whole CRM-efficient PaaS offering.

Expected results and effects:

The major outcomes will showcase three CRM-efficient PaaS offerings with enhanced sustainability as a European model to business leaders and policy makers. The major expected impacts are 1) increasing the CRM efficiency and security from the EU’s interest, 2) decoupling economic growth and resource use and 3) improving innovation capacity for further enhancing CRM-efficient PaaS business models.

Approach and implementation:

The whole consortium consists of four universities and four institutions from industry, based in seven EU countries: Linköpings Universitet (the only partner in Sweden) will be the coordinator and are experts on PaaS carrying out the assessment. Among others, BSH Hausgeräte GmbH will provide cases for the demonstrators from their PaaS business model.

The other three industry partners will provide expertise and facility on remanufacturing, reverse logistics, and legal regulations. The project duration is 3-years, and the total budget for the whole project is 1.5 M Euros.
