Grant Description

The construction sector is Sweden´s single most climate-affecting sector.

The biggest barriers to the utilization of innovations are in the gap between research, innovation & market introduction as well as the lack of methods, tools, skills that can respond to challenges in achieving climate neutrality.

Priority barriers to addressing are a broad knowledge building and use of climate calculation methodology in order to focus on challenges, pave the way for a rapid introduction of sustainable innovations that, with profitability, can take the sector to climate neutrality.

Through research collaboration within Sweden´s first local roadmap for a climate-neutral construction & civil engineering sector in Malmö (LFM30), these solutions are developed. LFM30´s climate calculation method is unique and far ahead of research nationally / internationally.

Interest in climate calculation of the construction process is growing rapidly across Sweden, supported by legislation for climate declaration of buildings.

All in all, this gives a clear picture of the fact that all players in the construction industry are in dire need of increased knowledge and benchmarks regarding climate calculation in order to meet their commitments and the forthcoming legislation. The project´s overall goal is to develop a national open database infrastructure for reporting and visualization of the construction & civil engineering sector´s climate promise, locally spreading it among LFM30´s 190 affiliated actors and nationally throughout the Swedish construction & civil engineering industry. The project´s focus on building a common database infrastructure for digital and industrial development in a life cycle perspective, its focus on broad knowledge & skills creation, creation and visualization of comparable data to pave the way for new sustainable value chains & business models and innovations and new applications for climate-smarter construction means that all Smart Built Environment´s theme areas are addressed.

With the effect goal that the Swedish construction & civil engineering sector will reach climate neutrality by 2030, the project wants to develop a climate database and visualization based on open data of industry players´ climate impact on companies, projects and activity levels to build knowledge and offer benchmarks to market players on a national basis.

The goal is thus directly linked to Smart Built Environment´s all long-term effect goals and its effect goals for 2024:• Increased access to open data for construction, use and maintenance• Increased productivity in the sector• More efficient energy and material use• Reduction of climate impact throughout the life cycle• Climate impact is declared digitally and systematically• New services or products available on the market• Increased innovation power among the sector´s players• Construction projects are carried out in industrial processes with the support of digitization• Business models of players are based on utility in an LCA perspective• Learning organizationsThe primary target group is 1.

LFM30´s affiliated players 2.

The total Swedish construction, real estate and civil engineering sector (public / private) that individually or collectively in local / regional climate initiatives, ongoing and under development are in need of knowledge and benchmark around climate calculation of construction & civil engineering projects gathered in a reference group to ensure quality, scale, disseminate and use the project´s solutions.Participating actors have both a system understanding and a common interest in the expected outcome and capacity to achieve the necessary scaling and dissemination to relevant actors to contribute to the goals of the project and research programs. The direct benefit of the project lies in the opportunity to quickly scale up climate work among actors in the construction and civil engineering sector, individually and collectively in local / regional climate initiatives across Sweden t
