Grant Description

Purpose and goal: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **

Today´s cycling infrastructure outside urban areas is deficient, which jeopardizes the potential for cycling in rural areas, e.g. due to high requirements, high costs and long lead times, difficulties with land access and an unfavorable division of responsibilities. The project aims to remove obstacles such as these, which prevent municipalities and regions from more extensive investments in cycle paths outside the urban area.

The project contributes to expanding efficient cycling infrastructure and thus to increased cycling. Expected results and effects:

The project is expected to, through increased cykling, contribute to more climate-neutral transport infrastructure in rural areas and to facilitate climate-neutral transportation and thus to reduced environmental impact from the transport sector. This also contributes to better public health and increaserd accessibility.

The project also has as impact goals to reduce the use of resources in road construction and thereby increase resource efficiency. Furthermore, it creates opportunities for new areas of use for Swedish wood raw material and wood industry. Approach and implementation:

The project is led by the research institute RISE and participating partner are Modular Cycling Networks AB, which has developed a prototype for prefabricated wooden modules for cycle paths.

Project partners are also the municipalities of Orust, Uddevalla, Färgelanda, Dals-Ed and Lysekil - municipalities of mainly sparsely populated character, where Orust and Uddevalla will act as test beds for cycle infrastructure in the form of prefabricated wooden modules. The project will also perform a policy-related study and map the municipalities´ needs for cycle infrastructure.
