“Sustainable cities are inclusive and accessible urban environments that offer all people an attractive and green living environment.
Proximity makes it easy to live your everyday life and get around with sustainable transport, such as walking and cycling.
A holistic view of planning together with smart solutions contributes to cities where people can live climate-smart, healthy and safe ”.Proximity is the key in the above description of the overall goal for sustainable cities in the Government´s strategy for Living Cities. One step on the way there is to be able to concretely measure and visualize how it actually is.
That´s exactly what Geographic Accessibility is all about! In municipal planning, there are many logistical challenges to take into account.
It is about everything from planning municipal services such as school places and nursing homes to planning to meet climate-related changes in order to achieve a sustainable society.
The idea for the innovation "Geographic Accessibility" has emerged while working on these issues together with various municipalities.
The need is to be able to easily visualize and calculate the availability of different types of services in society. The purpose of the project is to create a web-based generic accessibility model where the user can test different solutions to optimize the population´s accessibility to various important functions.
It gives municipalities access to a robust planning tool that cuts many stages in the analysis process.
It provides knowledge from the population´s perspective and provides an opportunity to plan wiser and more adaptively than before, even at the local level.
