Intended versus Realized Digital Strategies for Business Transformation in Swedish Firms

Purpose and goal:

High-impact digitalization, such as data-driven business and artificial intelligence, is challenging public and private organizations. To succeed, firms need to develop and execute comprehensive digital strategies. This project will analyze the intended digital strategies of a group of prominent firms and identify factors that contribute to or hinder the realization of these strategies.

The findings will inspire firms in other sectors to transform themselves for successful digital transformation. Expected results and effects:

The project will provide timely analyses of the partner firms’ intended and realized strategies, assess possible gaps between them, identify enablers and obstacles for their realization, and support solutions to address the gaps. It will develop knowledge on digital strategy development, the implementation of processes and practices, and mitigate strategy implementation challenges.

The project will contribute to the strategic leadership skills of the firms & create an extended knowledge-sharing platform. Approach and implementation:

The project is planned as four work packages (WPs), starts with WP1 by assessing intended and realized strategies at the partner firms and factors contributing to gaps between them and it will continue by observing the intended and realized digital strategies of a sample of leading Swedish firms to compare the factors that contribute to the gaps between their intended and realized digital strategies. In WP3 several workshops will be organized to share knowledge at partner firms. In WP4, the results of the project will be disseminated among firms and other stakeholders.
