Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The purpose of this program is to develop new drug candidates that are active against Gram-positive bacteria, primarily against Enterococcus spp. and S. aureus bacteria. We have identified compounds that are bactericidal to Gram-positive bacteria at low µM concentrations, and these substances can also increase the effectiveness of existing antibiotics. The aim of the program is to optimize the compounds and identify a lead candidate suitable for further preclinical development.

Expected results and effects:

During the project period, we expect to develop our early candidates into compounds with properties that are suitable for further drug development. The project will begin with a verification phase and if this is successful, then Hit-to-Lead optimization will begin. We expect that the collaboration with the ENABLE-2 platform will allow us to develop our hit compounds to a lead candidate faster and more efficiently.

In the longer term, the program also provides increased knowledge and greater opportunities for growth. Approach and implementation:

The project will be performed in close collaboration with the ENABLE-2 platform and will include studies of solubility, stability, resistance development, ADMET properties and antibacterial activity. If necessary, other external consultants will be brought in, for example to carry out studies regarding genotoxicity.
