Psychosis early detection and intervention (ED, EI) services aim to improve health and occupational outcomes by intervening during the early stages of illness.
These services have recently been recommended in Sweden but have yet to be fully implemented, providing a unique opportunity to evaluate their potential impact and optimise delivery.
This project aims to establish the real-world impact of EI by comparing trends in key outcomes over time in countries that vary in EI availability but are otherwise comparable (Sweden vs.
Denmark) and inform the implementation of ED and EI strategies in Sweden by developing predictive and prognostic models to support the delivery of personalised care to those in greatest need. This 3-year project, led by an international team, will use the national registries in Sweden and Denmark.
Study 1 will compare trends in psychosis incidence, age at onset, and type of care in these countries over a 15-year period.
Study 2 will generate prognostic models to identify patients with psychosis in Sweden with the poorest outcomes with respect to inpatient care, work disability, and suicidal behaviour.
Study 3 will develop a predictive model that uses demographic and clinical data to determine risk of psychosis in people treated for other psychiatric disorders in secondary and primary care.
This project will yield findings that have the potential to improve the lives of people with psychosis and enable healthcare providers to optimise service provision.
