Purpose and goal:
The concept of adaptable light-cured composites has been used in dentistry for decades. In this project, the technique will be transferred to surgical use for fixation of bone fractures. Biomedical Bonding will collaborate with Ivoclar Vivadent and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden to modify and develop this concept to complete a first adaptable and light-cured composite plate for fracture fixation, as well as the associated products required to perform this new method in surgery.
Expected results and effects:
This project will lay the foundation for the adaptable technology that the use of light-cured composite implants entails for fracture fixation. The first products will be finalised for use of the technology in clinical trials and to collect data for CE marking and product launch. At the same time, the collaboration between Biomedical Bonding, Ivoclar Vivadent and RISE will strengthen the position for market introduction and create user-friendliness of the product to enable a wide acceptance among surgeons.
Approach and implementation:
The project is divided into a product development phase and a phase with mor focus on testing and validation of the products´ properties as well as the established production processes. The products will be developed in parallel where their requirement specifications will be matched to each other to optimize product compatibility, safety and user-friendliness. All activities will comply with the EU´s medical device regulations and the companies´ quality management systems.
