Sustainable Production Process for High-Quality Gold-Plated Wires for Antennae

Purpose and goal:

The overarching objective of the project is a development of a gold coating process to improve the quality of coatings and the replacement of electroplating by solutions with a lower environmental impact. Specific Objectives:

Specific Objective 1: Improvement of the efficiency of an industrial process by adopting an approach aimed at increasing the durability of products. Specific Objective 2: Reducing the consumption of functional coating materials.

Specific Objective 3: Reduce the environmental impact of an existing industrial process through a technological breakthrough. Expected results and effects:

Luma Metall AB will be able to manufacture and market ultra-thin wires to new segments, as well as strengthen their current market position within medical equipment, communication satellites and the detector industries.

Expected result is a new state-of-the-art, cost effective and environmentally friendly manufacturing process for coated ultra-thin wires that ultimately yields unique adhesion abilities of the metal surface, enabling high-quality plating and use of new substrate materials for ultra-thin wire products in addition to the currently used materials tungsten (W) and molybdenum (Mo).

Approach and implementation:

The planned research and development of the Gold-PAWS will take place in individual innovation steps that will be carried out over a project duration of 24 months.
