Purpose and goal:
- Better knowledge of obstacles and enables increased waste sorting by mapping household behaviors to create an understanding of what influences the decision not to sort plastic waste at source. - Reduce the amount of plastic in household residual waste and increase the reuse of plastic. - Find incentive-based methods that increase the willingness to sort waste.
- Develop and disseminate a citizen-driven platform that can be implemented in other districts. Expected results and effects:
The project is expected to provide better knowledge of obstacles and enablers, better assessment of citizens´ ability to sort, verified technology for tracking waste, reduced amount of plastic in the residual waste and a working model to offer the right incentive to sort the waste. If the project and the models that are developed prove to have a good effect on reduced plastic in the residual waste, there are good conditions for spreading to other district heating operators.
Approach and implementation:
The project will carry out surveys of the roles and responsibilities of the waste chain´s actors, citizens’ behaviors, property owners´ solutions and concerns with areas for waste fractionation, as well as previously implemented initiatives and the results achieved. The project will also develop different types of systems for tracking, measuring and mapping the waste´s route, as well as developing different solutions to increase citizens´ incentives to sort the waste.
