Sustainable food systems in Härnösand

Purpose and goal:

The project Sustainable Foodsystems Härnösand´s aim is to start production, processing, distribution and composting of food in a regenerative cycle within the municipality. The project draws inspiration from and nourishes civil society, which will be challenged and encouraged to practice self-organization to start conversations, groups and places that claim space in order to participate in local systems around food as well as life it self, and social and biological diversity.

We will also increase the municipality´s degree of self-sufficiency and spread the idea to other municipalities in Sweden Expected results and effects:

We expect the effect to be a more active civil society. Relationships will both increase in number and depth. We also expect that more people fully take the role as citizens - active co-creators in a vibrant municipality. Specific effects are that we will see increases in: - resilience in the municipality especially in terms of knowledge about food production and processing,

- number of places that produce and process food - the amount of food produced and - the ability to self-organize. Approach and implementation:

The project´s success rests on the fact that we get a good and broad response from people who can think of engaging in activities inspired by the project as well as from those who can think of supporting some food production activities in other ways. The first part of the project will be to engage and enthuse people to add growing, processing, distribution or composting to their lives.

We will be holding a number of events, meetings and open conversations around food. We will also test the Reconomy concept to match business ideas with financiers or others who want to support in other ways.
