Purpose and goal:
The objective of this project is to investigate the potential for a new generation, high performance, bone conduction implant system based on novel transducer and power link technologies. The main tasks will be to conceptualize and evaluate transducer electronic driver stage, to develop methodologies for evaluation and optimisation of the energy link and to evaluate the output performance of the system.
Also, the influence of design and material parameters of the power link in relation to the novel transducer technology will be determined. Expected results and effects:
The project is expected to conceptualize, evaluate and build a transducer driver stage and to determine the effects of different parameters. The power link will be evaluated, adapted and optimised for driver/transducer system. Preliminary results show that the coupling factor of the novel power link is substantially higher compared with a conventional planar-coil link and the output performance of a complete system is expected to outperform current available solutions. The driver stage and power link is expected to reduce current consumption and extend battery life.
Approach and implementation:
The transducer driver stage will be conceptualized and evaluated, and the system performance output given a conventional power link determined (Q322-Q422). Measurement results are expected to show electrical performance of wire diameter and windings, ferrite material and if direct coupling will improve the efficiency and lower the current consumption as compared to modulation coupling (Q123-Q223).
Between Q223 and Q124, the prototypes of a complete system are expected to be tested, followed by data analysis and test-retests, dissemination and publication.
