Purpose and goal:
The aim of the project is to further develop the additive manufacturing method “laser metal deposition with wire” (L-DEDw), with the purpose of strengthening the participating partner companies´ different knowledge and competences in this field to assure high enough technology maturity to enable serial manufacturing capability at the participating companies (Technology Readiness Level 7).
Expected results and effects:
It is expected that the project will result in a prototype Additive Manufacturing (AM) system, designed for production, that will be in place at the Production Technology Centre (PTC). It will be integrated into a robotized laser welding cell which represents a production-like setting. In said AM system, demonstrator parts will be built such that the build procedure replicates series production.
Approach and implementation:
Using the insertion components identified by the projects end user and the verified process window obtained in previous work at University West, a detailed sensitivity analysis will be performed and further development of the automated L-DEDw system conducted to reliably manage expected disturbances of key process variables in relevant industrial setting, thus reaching at least TRL7. Complementary development work will be performed at University West supporting and securing the successful scaling up of the L-DEDw process.
