This application concerns a brand-new Swedish journal in Speech Language Pathology, Acta Logopaedica (AL).
The funding sought relates to the relatively high costs coming with the start of a new journal, e.g. design of layout, design of author instructions, establishment of the platform, marketing, etc. The application relates to the journal´s first three years and there is a plan for the journal´s continued funding.
Speech Language Pathology (SLP) is an interdisciplinary field with strong points of contact with several different scientific fields.
SLP research concerns clinical populations such as children with language disorders, adults with various types of communicative impairments, people with voice problems and people with swallowing difficulties. AL´s ambition is to promote SLP research and make its social relevance visible.
The journal is aimed at Scandinavian researchers, clinicians, and students in SLP and related areas, but also at a wider readership.
In a publishing landscape where Swedish as a research language is sometimes overlooked, AL offers a forum for Swedish-speaking researchers without compromising the quality that anonymous expert review entails.
By welcoming texts in Norwegian, Danish and English, the journal strives to promote knowledge exchange and dialogue with other researchers relevant for SLP, not least in the Nordic region and in Europe. The journal is published completely open access, which increases accessibility for both researchers and the public.
AL constitutes a welcome complement to international journals in the field.
The journal will be of great importance for the dissemination of knowledge and new research to Swedish and Nordic SLPs as it will publish research from a Swedish and Nordic context.
AL will also be spread to related professions such as psychologists, occupational therapists, doctors, physiotherapists, and educational staff. The journal is very newsworthy in the research area and short processing times are sought.
