This application refers to the utilization of knowledge developed in the project Confidence in every step (Dnr. 2020-01557), with a focus on supporting older adults to retain their physical functioning and confidence to move, in the stages when their functional ability suddenly changes, e.g. after an injury or hospital stay.
Through co-design and repeated workshops, four activities to train physical functioning (balance, strength, confidence to move) were developed in a peer-to-peer learning (PPL) platform; MoveImprove, by older adults in pairs, researchers and technology developers.
Qualitative data show that the participants experienced the PPL platform as beneficial and as an opportunity for increased movement awareness and provided alternative ways of using their bodies in everyday living.
We know, however, through nearby research projects that even if digital support proves to be useful, the big challenge lies in implementing work processes that meet the patient´s needs for support when digital tools are integrated and utilised in practice (Ekstedt et al., 2022 ).
We, therefore, want to stimulate interprofessional knowledge sharing and communication about work processes in healthcare that contribute to the utilization of innovations that create added value for patients.
The focus is on knowledge sharing about motivational support for older people to retain and maintain physical functioning integrated with everyday living.
The planned activities are five cross-organizational forum meetings with Region Kronoberg, Region Kalmar and Ljungby, Växjö, Alvesta, Kalmar and Borgholm municipalities.
We will use participatory methods, such as scenario-based Forum Play (Ekstedt et al., 2022, Zbikowski et al., 2016) to promote a cross-organizational understanding of a) how to motivate and support older patients (+65) to retain and practice their physical functioning at home b) which tools and working methods that work in the healthcare work processes c) what the obstacles are to the use of interactive and innovative eHealth tools to support older adults’ physical functioning at home.
This will contribute to a greater understanding of how the challenges of interprofessional cooperation and knowledge sharing can be bridged and are expected to generate valuable knowledge that can be used to integrate innovations into clinical practice.
