Grant Description

The aim of the project Managing the risk of intimate partner violence in remote and rural areas is to disseminate research results on risk management and collaboration regarding intimate partner violence, stalking, and honor-based violence and oppression to police and social service professionals in remote and rural municipalities.

The project is linked to the research program RISKSAM, which aims to implement and evaluate a sustainable and evidence-based model, RISKSAM, and its effect.

In this project, we want to reach out with our first results from the RISKSAM program and engage in dialogue with new target groups of professionals.

We turn to practitioners in remote and rural areas who often have fewer opportunities to participate in ongoing research. They also speak up less often in matters that concern them. Therefore, in this project, we want to include them by going to them and meeting on their terms in their arenas.

Expanding our geographical reach in RISKSAM is essential to us as we need more knowledge about the conditions, challenges, and needs of remote and rural areas regarding issues of risk assessment and risk management of interpersonal violence.

The main activity in the project is the three tours, i.e., visits to practitioners in social services and the police, which will be carried out in the spring of 2023.

Three researchers within the RISKSAM program and a doctoral student will participate in the tours, which involve 5-7 municipal visits each tour.

Each visit will start with a session on RISKSAM, our research results on risk assessment and management, and an introduction to the RISKSAM model.

The second part is devoted to dialogue in groups and focus group interviews about the specific challenges of remote and rural areas that can generate a mapping of their unique needs and support.

A digital conference in October 2023 will summarize the project and publications for the scientific community and practitioners. The main ambition of the project is to contribute to spreading information about the RISKSAM work and, in dialogue with the professionals, to develop the model even more specifically to the challenges facing sparsely populated and rural areas.

The project thus addresses the global goals for sustainable development within Agenda 2030: Reduced inequalities, Sustainable cities and communities, and Good health and well-being.
