Purpose and goal: WELDVISI will create a cognitive support system for welding and other suitable generic manual operations.
The system shall be able to measure travel speed and tool angles continuously and send data to the operator which can thereby make instant corrections affect the end result using this feedback. It will also be possible to save this data in a documentation- and quality system, either locally or on a cloud service. The goal is to create a functional prototype with sensors, data management and visual feedback to the operator that can be displayed and demonstrated at project completion.
Expected results and effects:
The cognitive support system is expected to assist the operator / worker with continuous feedback of parameters. The system can be used for training but also to test angles and speed before a critical weld is to be performed. The digital quality system that is built in automatically ensures the manual documentation to the same level as in mechanized processes.
This will free up time and lead to reduced stress while achieving increased productivity and reduced amount of defective components, which will result in increased profitability. Approach and implementation:
In the project, a working group of welders with different backgrounds and experience will be gathered to provide input to the desired feedback and how this is best presented to the operator. This input forms the basis for the development of the cognitive support system which during the project will be iteratively tested and improved. Testing of sensors suitable for use in a welding environment will be planned early in the project.
The developed system will be presented at seminars and trade fairs and in addition to a project report at least one scientific article will be written.
