New manufacturing process for production of new lightweight packaging materials (LPAM)

Purpose and goal:

The goal of the project, which was fulfilled, was to develop the commercialization of a new innovative manufacturing process for the production of a new type of strong lightweight packaging materials. Expected results and effects:

The new innovative manufacturing process enables continuous production of packaging materials that have lower weight, but yet are both stiffer and stronger, than today´s commercially available comparable alternatives, which saves raw material, energy and costs in packaging material production and makes it possible to produce uniquely light and strong packaging. As planned, the project has contributed to the development of a commercialization plan for, and initiated demonstration of, the new innovative manufacturing technology.

Approach and implementation:

The project´s planned approach was to take the new manufacturing process from a patent-pending verified idea towards a commercialized product by developing a commercialization strategy for the new process technology and initiate the development of a prototype that demonstrates the function of the manufacturing process and the production of the new packaging material. The project was succesfully carried out following this planned approach.
