Purpose and goal:
The project aims to develop high-performance alloys that are resistant to Hydrogen Embrittlement. This is done by activating multiple mechanisms against the HE in the alloys to reduce the Hydrogen diffusion into the alloy. In addition, and as a novel approach, we use modern alloy design concepts such as multi-principal-element alloys (MPEAs) to study the effect of increased entropy and microstructural stability on alloys performance under Hydrogen environment.
Expected results and effects:
The results obtained in this project will impact and improve the efficiency and safety of the Hydrogen value chain, which enables reducing the associated costs and thus making this emerging energy source more competitive against existing solutions like fossil fuels. Moreover, ALL4HYDRO II strengthens the competence level of the project consortium in developing next-generation metallic materials, to serve the Swedish industry and society better and to highlight Sweden on the world map of strategic and durable alloy developers.
Approach and implementation:
The project integrates theoretical modeling/simulation (physical metallurgy and computational thermodynamics), high-throughput screening algorithms, and major experimental studies. The research progress towards the proposed objectives comprises five + one interconnecting work packages (WPs). WP0: project management and dissemination; WP1-5: literature study, design, processing, testing the new alloys, and a demonstrator. Iterative coordination between the WPs will minimize risks and adequate high success rates.
