Purpose and goal:
The aim of the project is to enable reliable simulations to predict the properties of the material in the hot rolling process for bar and profile. RollSim is an existing and user-friendly simulation tool for implementing flexible conversions with new material types and products, but it is in need of further development. Further development should enable increased understanding of the impact of the process parameters (track series) on the material throughout the entire process chain. The goal is that the software can also be used to optimize existing track series.
Expected results and effects:
With the proposed further development of RollSim, it will be possible to simulate the entire process chain from rough rolling to finished rolling with existing cooling sections and follow the temperature development and profile of the material. It is also expected to be possible to study the effects of the design of the rolls and the layout of the rolling mill, which can lead to shortened lead times in the development of new materials and rolled products.
Approach and implementation:
The work to further develop RollSim is divided into five work packages of equal value in order to achieve a good whole for simulating the entire process. These include (1) joint development of a graphical interface, (2) ability to read roll profiles from external sources, (3) creation of generic material libraries, (4) implementation of thermal solver and, (5) functions to include non- symmetrical profiles.
