Purpose and goal:
The project goal is to develop a 100 % biobased solution for high barrier performance for 3D formed fiber-based packaging with lower climate impact that fulfil requirements on recyclability and complies with circular design principles. The project scope is two-folded:
To develop and identify how biobased high-performing barriers for fiber-based packaging should be designed and industrially integrated and to develop and demonstrate sustainable packaging concepts for three complementing fiber based-technologies, dry formed fibers, wet molded fibers and deep drawn board.
Expected results and effects: The result from the project is expected to generate: New high-performance bio-based barrier systems Barrier application techniques adapted for fiber-based packaging
Knowledge of how high-performance bio-based barriers can be industrially integrated into fiber-based ones packaging technology Prototype concept that shows the potential in replacing plastic packaging Identified standardization methods needed for comparative evaluation of fiber-based packaging Plan for industrialization
