Purpose and goal:
The aim of the project was partially fulfilled through the identification of new variables that could impact the workflow. Despite the encountered limitations, we successfully produced prototypes which were used to showcase the outstanding material properties. Our team optimized protocols for filament production and implant printing, implementing a meticulously detailed workflow.
Consequently, we successfully produced and sterilized degradable implants that will be utilized in a preclinical study. Expected results and effects:
We have successfully synthesized three material batches by fine-tuning a newly identified variable. While we were unable to scale up the synthesis to the desired quantity, we have effectively confirmed that each batch satisfies the application requirements. However, the larger synthesis was impeded by the increased cost of the feedstock ingredients.
Furthermore, the achieved results have facilitated the establishment of a partnership with a renowned biomedical research institute, enabling us to conduct further validation of our implants in an upcoming preclinical study. Approach and implementation:
The project plan was divided into three work packages: scale-up material synthesis, optimization of implant production, and sterilization strategy. The first phase concluded within one month as we determined that a large-scale synthesis was not economically viable. Consequently, the second phase commenced earlier, aiming to optimize three material grades, a goal that was successfully achieved within a two-month timeframe.
The final phase of the project concluded in two months, aided by the involvement of an external supplier who supported the sterilization process.
