Purpose and goal:
The aim of the project was to develop a software platform for Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, to improve the utilization rate of batteries in electrified boats. By turning electric boats into mobile energy storages, the project aimed to stabilize the electricity grid through energy arbitrage and ancillary services, especially during periods of fluctuating demand.
The goal of the project was to develop the software for a V2G prototype, to establish customer collaborations, as well as to establish the collaborations required to trade support services. Expected results and effects:
The project has implemented automatic optimization (cloud service) of energy arbitrage that takes into account the user´s planned use (entered via mobile app), boat pool rental scheduling and electricity price in the respective electricity area (from electricity market). The optimization is communicated to the boat´s IoT computer, which controls the system.
Regarding support services, we have implemented software to control according to FFR. Work on FCR has begun but has not reached as far as FFR. The project has attracted interest from both national and international actors. Approach and implementation:
The system has been built on the same scalable principles as the boat pool functionality, allowing the number of units to be scaled up. The software has also been designed to easily add support for more types of inverters. Great emphasis has been placed on automation, for example, automatic pre-qualification tests for FFR.
It has been important to continuously follow the development of rules around the electricity market, for instance, a new role will be introduced in 2024, which reduces the need to collaborate with a balance responsible party.
